Acadia/Seawall

The Acadia Seawall in Southwest Harbor, Maine is a large stone wall that was built in the late 1800s to protect the harbor from the powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The wall is made of granite blocks and is approximately 1,000 feet long. It is one of the oldest and most impressive seawalls in the United States. The wall is a popular spot for visitors to take in the stunning views of the harbor and the surrounding area. It is also a great spot for fishing, swimming, and other recreational activities.

Positives: Great location, quiet campground, clean & well maintained bathrooms Negatives: Walk-in sites are extremely small & too tightly packed, but wheelbarrows are nicely provided for transporting gear. D Loop is very muddy & swampy. Finding showers to use was definitely difficult, as the closest & recommended service was only open 4-7pm. The 10am checkout is strictly enforced. Staff is informative but not particularly friendly. For a cheap, no-frills place to access to Acadia, Seawall can accommodate. In the future if we chose to stay here again, we would definitely pay for a drive-in site & stay in a different loop. If you need any other conveniences or luxuries, I would not recommend Seawall.

Spent 2 weeks at Seawall. Great place. We stayed at a double lot which would have been cramped but due to Covid we had both spaces. Fabulous outdoor fire places. Offsite showers close at 7 but we could use the shower in our camper, so no worries. Very clean bathroom, but no soap or dryers. Loved Acadia!

People aren’t respectful of quiet hours at all and you’re right in top of each other.

My wife wasn’t thrilled about the walk in site, but as someone who loves the quiet of the outdoors, it was perfect. No cars on the walk-in sites and the sites are reasonably far apart for you to enjoy nature. Clean bathrooms, and an easy drive to the coin operated showers nearby. Doesn’t get much more reasonably priced than camping here!
