I've been coming here since I was little and I have so many great memories and just keep msking more at this place. I love the blue jays, the frogs, the squirrels and chipmunks. When I was younger I remember seeing a buck and it stared straight at us. I love having picnics here (sometimes we grill, other times we just eat fruit), watching my dogs playing and sniffing everything, and just hiking. This place holds a very dear place in my heart for many reasons and I really hope it holds a special place in other people's hearts. If you're visiting, this is a place you need to go. 2022 Update: This place is still amazing and I love how the scenery changes with the seasons. However, I will admit, I hate how close some properties have gotten to the lake. It's definitely gotten rid of some of the beauty in this park. You no longer feel isolated here. I hate that people aren't being fined when they leave trash. The park is still just as beautiful and always deserves a visit because there are memories to be made here.

Great facilities, reasonable price, my only complaint is that some sites are not level enough for tent camping. We'll return but we'll try to arrive earlier in the day to secure a functional space. We had a very rough night sliding off of our air mattress all night.

This is my contemplative spot. There are more trails than people realize. There is a trail around the lake. There is a trail covered in bush leading toward the highway. If you climb up the mountain, there is a trail with a view, where you are essentially on top of the mountain. Near the lake, if you follow the very faint trail past the restrooms (it's hidden), there is a rocky area with a slow flowing fall, with plenty of shade. This trail is my favorite. Few people seem to know about it. It's not a bad place to camp either. During the spring season, we bring nets and buckets. There are an abundance of tadpoles and it makes for a memorable experience with the kids.

I caught my first fish here back in 1994, my daughter caught her first fish here in 2017 so in all honesty, the nostalgia this place offers me may bring a biased review. That being said, this place offers a small creek you can fish in most months of the year (keep an eye on restocking times and plan your trip accordingly as it can be fished out rather quickly). It also offers multiple grill sites and hiking trails that have amazing views and are the keys to the outdoors. When you reach the peaks, you get a great overlook of both the Washoe Valley lakes and Mount Rose. Located right between Carson and Reno, it offer the most convenient location for family gatherings and outdoor experiences. This is right down the way from Bowers Mansion so there are plenty of activities for everyone.

A convenient stop on our way to Death Valley. We stayed one night in site 26, mid week in February 2022. The campground was empty and chilly. The site pull throughs were not very level and a bit tight. We have a 26 ft tent trailer. This campground is conveniently located off the 395. We appreciated the location, but there was distant freeway noise throughout the night. The bathrooms were heated and clean. We did not explore the area since we were headed south, but I would stay here again if we were traveling through this area and needed a place to stay.
