Love this place, I have loved it for 40+ years

I always loved going here with my children. After they were grown, Winnebago County Forest Preserves decided to raise rates, and tack on an out of county fee. I can actually camp for much less (with Senior Discount) at Rock Cut, and have a shower house and a lake. Miss this place, but it is not "Social Security friendly".

Enjoyed a quiet, beautiful hike. Scenic, we saw about six deer and a gorgeous stone bridge. The only suggestions would be better maps and trail markings. Gravel on trail would be nice.

The campground is clean, well maintained and has firewood on site. The camp host is very friendly and helpful. Several clean outhouses are really nice. Spaces are large and great for groups. Unfortunately to many people use it as a frat house and blast extremely loud music, party and scream into the night. Most of the people want to relax but the few idiots ruin it for everyone. Each time I've been here there's been at least 1 or 2 large rowdy groups.

A very nice and quiet place for camping. Will be going back again.
